George W. Stroomer, age 66 of Bridgeport, died Friday, March 13, 2009 at Bridgeport Hospital. A native of Bridgeport son of the late Neil and Kathryn Novak Stroomer, George was a toolmaker for El Dorado Gun Barrel Drilling Co. and served in the U.S. Army in Viet Nam. He was a member of North Haven Sportsman Club, life member of Raymond Goldbach Post VFW 9460, Stratford and life member of the National Rifle Association. He also was a oyster fisherman on the Housatonic River and Long Island Sound for many years. Survivors include two sons, Sean and Eric Stroomer; his former wife, Susan Stroomer, all of Milford, two brothers, Richard Stroomer, with whom he resided and Larry Kozek; one sister, Kathryn Stroomer, both of Ansonia. He is predeceased by a brother, Neil. A prayer service will be offered Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford. Interment in St. Michael Cemetery with full military honors. VFW post 9460 will conduct a service on Monday evening at 7 p.m. Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
