Peter M. Sarkissian, 64, of West Hartford, passed away at home on Saturday, February 28, 2009 after a brave 12 year battle with prostate cancer. A Vietnam Navy veteran, Pete graduated from the University of Connecticut and obtained an MBA from the University of Hartford. He worked for the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency, the Connecticut State Board of Accountancy and discovered his ideal career path working as a software engineer at St. Paul/Travelers. He was a member of the Valley Ski Touring Club, the AAUW Gourmet Group, and an avid cross country skier. He leaves behind his beloved wife Sally; adored daughter Holly Sarkissian of New York City; a sister Rosemary Cook and her husband Charles of Portsmouth, RI; a brother John Sarkissian and his wife Janice Vitullo of Cleveland Heights, OH; sister-in-law Nancy Letts and her husband Jeffrey of Punta Gorda, FL; and many nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Eileen Sarkissian of Stratford. A witty and intelligent man who was known for his rants and love of Starbucks coffee, Pete will be missed by all, including his Hospice team who provided such compassionate care during his illness. Many thanks to special care giver Marva Charles, Laura Holzhauer, RN, and the entire staff at Masonicare Hospice. A memorial service will be held at the Universalist Church of West Hartford on Saturday, March 21, at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either WFCR Public Radio Station, Hampshire House, 131 County Circle, Amherst, MA 01003, Masonicare Home Healthcare & Hospice, 111 Founders Plaza, Suite 200, East Hartford, CT 06108, or the charity of your choice.
